I’ve been MIA for quite a while.  Moving the family, pets, a house and a pole barn stuffed full of cars and shit 200 miles away takes some time.  Actually finding a house takes a lot of time, then the actual MOVE is never-ending!  However, we are close to completion and it’s time to go explore this new town of Auburn, IN!   Let’s do this!!

Auburn is a historically rich town known best for it’s work with the automotive industry; however, I’m here to tell you that there is a lot more to Auburn than cars!  The town is amazing.  It’s a small town that takes pride in its community.  The streets are well designed and groomed to make you want to stop driving and get out of your car for a stroll!  Lots of little shops, restaurants, antique stores, boutiques, ice cream & coffee shops around the square.  And flowers.  Lots of beautiful flowers and benches where one can stop and enjoy the views!  Plus there is a local farmers market on Wednesday’s & Saturdays!

Auburn hold frequent activities that are great for the entire family.  There are lots of old historic homes in the downtown area that are affordable AND cute (some may be for rent)!  Plus they still have a sense of community where Mom & Pop businesses not only exist but thrive.  Yes, both Mom & Pop still work the store, perform the service and are happy to chat when they see you in streets.  It’s a real sense of community with the courthouse sitting proudly in the middle of town.  And it still looks like a courthouse.  DeKalb County Courthouse below.

I spent some time “running the streets” today.  I ran thru town admiring the streets and businesses.  To the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum  and the National Auto & Truck Museum.  Even found the location of a time capsule buried on the property of the ACD museum (go find it!!).

But as a runner, my biggest find was a short local trail, the Auburn-Waterloo Bike Path, that I can’t wait to run again, again and again.  The entrance is hidden in plain site on North Street, just east of Indiana.  It travels from North Street to Betz (1 mile), then follows Betz east a few blocks and picks up the path on the east side of 427 heading north toward Waterloo.  Please note that 427 is Main Street, which turns into Wayne Street in Waterloo.  Total distance is 4 miles from North Street to the end in Waterloo.  Nice little jaunt.  And do be careful of broken sidewalks/pavement on the trail/sidewalk along 427.
