The Waiting Game …. Cuz I Can’t Fix This

The seasons are always changing.  Things are always happening.  We don’t have control over what happens but we do have control over our reaction.

in charge

If you are like me, then maybe your reaction, isn’t always thought out.  It might be a bit harder to control the “reaction”.  I’m a fast thinker.  Fast talker.  I sometimes react before my thoughts have fully developed and that isn’t necessarily to my benefit.   I’m an Aries and the sign fits me well.

Aries

Looking at those adjectives associated with the sign, a couple pop out at me.  Impatient.  Impulsive.  Blunt.  Detached.  I don’t like to wait.  I want to react now.  If something is broken, I want to fix it.  I want to fix things now.  Or yesterday if that’s an option.  It has to happen so let’s just do it.  Now.

ones who find happiness

Yet the older I get, the more I realize that so many things are out of my control.  Especially how others react to a situation.  As an Aries, to me, things are pretty cut and dry.  For others there is wiggle room.  Their reaction is subject to interpretation after I’ve already made my decision and have moved onto the next thing.  They move slower.  They think.  They speak cautiously as if the words they choose are a matter of life and death.  In fact, so slow and so cautiously that I want to pull their words out of their mouth or better yet, tell them what to say.  It’s almost painful for me to await their words and/or reactions.  Sounds dramatic?  It certainly feels that way.  And in so, it makes me …… Impatient.  Impulsive.  Blunt.  And sometimes …. Detached.

I’ve spoken previously about depression (Depression Hurts) and confidence (Strong Enough) issues.  It seems as if there is almost always someone very close to me who is struggling with mental demons of some sort.  I can’t say that I’m immune to those things but I frequently feel detached from them.  More as if I don’t have time for my own mental demons so it’s hard to understand how debilitating they can be for others.  I think God puts these people in my path to keep me humble and to slow me down.  To teach me things about savoring the moment.  To help me realize that some things can’t be fixed now, or yesterday.  To put my impatience on hold because this is something which I can’t control or fix.

I can't fix

I’m at one of these junctures now.  A place where I can’t fix what has gone wrong.  I can’t make someone happy.  I can’t take away their pain.  I can’t make them love themselves.  I can’t make them feel worthy.  Or strong.  Or beautiful.  Or smart.  Or amazing.  Or even normal.  And that sucks.  Miss Fix-It can’t fix this.  So I’ll wait.  And I’ll pull out a few of the better Aries characteristics.  I’ll be strong, optimistic ….. And loving.

I know people go thru these things every day.  And it’s not fun.  If you’re the one struggling with mental demons that are leaving you feel worthless and alone, go get help.  Talk to someone.  You’re not alone.  If you are the friend, daughter, mother, wife or neighbor to the one struggling, just be there and try not to obsess over the fact that you can’t fix everything.  Don’t take it personally.  Dry those tears and be ready when they need you.  I’ll be waiting it out with you.  Smile

Fox Island …. Ft Wayne, IN

IFox Island Nature Perserve

7324 Yohne Rd.
Fort Wayne, IN 46809

As you  know, I like to explore new trails.  I particularly like ones where I can take the kids and a dog (or two) and get everyone out of the house just stroll along in the fresh air.  Fox Island County Park is one such place.  See excerpt from the Allen County Parks Department webpage below:

Fox Island is a 605 acre park located in southwest Allen County. Within this park, 270 acres are dedicated as State Nature Preserve, which protects areas having unique plants, animals or geographic features. Hundreds of species of animals and plants live at Fox Island because of the relatively natural condition of most of the area, with its habitats of marsh, seasonal ponds, wooded sand dunes, wetland forest, old fields and restored prairie. The park contains the largest contiguous forest in the county and a glacial sand dune

When I moved to Indiana, just north of Fort Wayne, many people suggested I visit Fox Island for running.  After reviewing the maps and website, I was thinking it would be a better place for a family excursion verses a running adventure for myself.  There are 7 miles of short trails winding thru the forest but they are flat and perfect for a family hike.

IMG_6726  IMG_6725

The trails never venture too far from a road or intersection.  There are markers throughout the park identifying trails, trees, plants, flowers and even a bit of history.  Some trails are dirt, others grass.

foxislandtrailmap

Wildlife is buzzing on and off the trail.  Perfect destination for the family and most trails are groomed well enough for a 3 wheeled jogging type stroller.

IMG_6729   IMG_6730

And there are bridges.  And a beach on Bowman Lake for playing and swimming (stock photo).  Plus fishing areas.

IMG_6735   Fox Island Beach

Fox Island has a beautiful Nature Center with a classroom, which is available for rental.  We went on a Friday night and if I remember correctly, there was a scrapbooking event in the Nature Center.  I neglected to get a photo of this area because Michael was super excited and starting running toward the docks behind the Nature Center which have a great view of the pond, wildlife and the surrounding trails.  Even if you have a member in your group who isn’t able to walk the trails, you can always drive them to the Nature Center and have a look around in that area without doing much walking.  Very nice. Scenic.  Handicap accessible.  And peaceful unless you have a 5 year old screaming and yelling with excitement

There is an entry fee for Fox Island.  When we were there, nobody was at the gatehouse taking admission but we stopped and dropped our $2 per person fee into the drop box.  I did notice that most were just driving in without paying and while it’s easy to do that, I always try to support these types of forest preserves because I know that funding is hard to come by and I enjoy being able to explore new areas.  Without funds, places like Fox Island will close and be lost to the public.  If you drove in and forgot to leave your entry fee, you can join or make a donation to the Fox Island AllianceWinking smile

See you on the trail!

2015 …. What’s THE Plan?

Most of you wrote down your 2015 resolution, or  “goal list”, before the fireworks even went off.

2015

Not me.  No list.

2014 was a BIG year for me.

  • 3 – 50K Ultra
  • 8 – Marathons
  • 5 – Half Marathons
  • 1 – 10K
  • 1 – 8K
  • 1 – 4 Miler
  • 2 – 5Ks

I started the year with a bang and completed the inaugural Dopey Challenge at Disney World in January 2014.

Dopey  Minnie Mouse & Me

I ran races with friends that were hard.  Like really hard.

Little Rock Cancelled  LR Medals

I ran roads.  Trails.  And everything in between.

Julie - Dances W Dirt

I completed 4 marathons in 4 weeks (21 days actually, but who’s counting?) to celebrate my 40th Birthday.  The 4 for 40 quest was a success and my kiddos were right there cheering me along the way, which made it even better.

KY Derby_kids     Illinois Marathon

My family moved from Illinois to Indiana.  A 200 mile journey that took months.

I laughed a lot.  I cried a lot.  I made a lot of memories.  2014 may be gone but the good memories will not be forgotten.

As for 2015, I’m currently resting.  As we know, running is cyclical.  You  either build rest into your routine OR the Injury Devil will creep in and force the issue.   Normally I build in my rest period, and I had a couple rest periods in 2014,  but overall it’s “possible” that I ran one to many races.  Winking smile  So now I’m in rest mode which is totally boring.

I do have a couple races on the calendar and I promised Aby that she could run her first half marathon when she turned 13.  Her 13th birthday was last August, so her first half will be this summer prior to the start of her high school Cross County season.   My races are below.  I may not be racing a whole lot this year, so be sure to say HEY if you see me!

So my 2015 plan is to have less of a plan than I did in 2014.  I have a few personal goals to which I’m committed.  I have a few family goals to which I’m committed.  And most importantly I want to see Aby reach her goal of conquering her first half marathon.  The rest will unravel with time.

SOL REPUBLIC Punk Wireless Speaker Review & Giveaway …..

I’m not exactly sure where the year has gone but like it or not, the holidays are upon us.  I’ve slowly started to Christmas shop and Michael already found everything I had hidden for him specifically because I need to budget for it this year in a different way than ever before.  So start slow and space it out, right?

Even though I’m on a budget, I still like to give killer gifts!  Therefore, I wanted to talk about the SOL REPUBLIC Punk Wireless Speaker NOW before I get lost in the holiday shuffle!

image

SOL REPUBLIC is known for delivering amazing sound in everything they produce.  I have multiple SOL REPUBLIC items and love each and every one of them.  Definitely my favorite retailer for sound.   However, the Punk Wireless Speaker is a bit different than their other products because this speaker was built to go wherever you go.

SR_SM_Punk-1024x512-7

It’s small.  Like fits in the palm of my hand small.  My wallet is larger than this speaker!  It easily fits in my purse, gym bag and the pocket of my vest.

IMG_5677

It has a mounting thread on the bottom of the speaker to mount to your bike.

IMG_5681     Punk_bike

It was built to take a hit and keep on blasting those tunes.

Beware of PUNK. Smaller, tougher and louder than you would expect. Play it everywhere and take it anywhere. PUNK is fearless. Not afraid of water, dirt, or getting kicked around and gutsy enough to play music loud. If you won’t break the rules, PUNK will.

So parents, if your kids (or you) want a wireless speaker that can roll down the stairs, get wet, dirty and keep on playing, this might be for you.  I specifically wanted this speaker for my sun room which has a hot tub.  I know you are all thinking, “hot tub, that’s so cool”, well it’s not cool, it’s hot!  It gets hot and steamy in there, like a sauna.  It’s not a great place for a fancy sound system!  The wireless range on the Punk Wireless Speaker is 60+ feet.  I set up a play list on my phone, start the speaker, leave my phone high and dry in the house and take this little guy out in the “sauna like” sun room with me.  Sound quality is excellent.  It plays LOUD.  And the battery life lasts for around 8 hours.  I’ve used the Punk every single day since it’s arrived, in and out of the sun room.  Smile    Love this thing!

IMG_5590    IMG_5591

One last thing, that’s important if you are as UN tech savvy as me, is that the Bluetooth hooks up easily.  I don’t mess too much with technology.  In fact, when iPods were “wired” and I had to plug into the computer, it was a train wreck, my iPod was never updated and at this point I don’t even have a computer with an active iTunes account.  Bluetooth was invented for people like me.  It’s easy.  I can quickly/easily pair my iPhone with any SOL REPUBLIC wireless speaker.  I just go into my settings, click on Bluetooth and my phone searches for the speaker (which needs to be on).  The Punk speaker pops up and I select it.  After that initial pairing it hooks up automatically.  So easy!  IMG_5682

The Punk Wireless Speaker retails for $69.99 at Best Buy HERE and SOL REPUBLIC HERE but we have one to giveaway FREE to a lucky reader!!  In order to be eligible to win, please comment below and tell us what you plan to do with the Punk Wireless Speaker if you win!  Are you keeping it or giving it to a lucky someone as a gift?!?!?  Tell us!!  Giveaway starts NOW and ends next Friday, November 21st at 9am.  Good luck!

Watch SOL REPUBLIC on the social media channels below for the most up to date news on their amazing products.

I seriously hope you rock out at every holiday gathering you attend.  Music makes the soul happy, take the PUNK and go get those parties started or if you aren’t into parties, you can just listen to it while you work, like I do.

Routine is Key …..

As we all know, things are so much easier when we create a routine and stick to it. However, many of us are flying by the seat of our pants despite our best efforts to stay on schedule. Creating a schedule is an elementary idea. Super simple until you have to start squeezing every aspect of your life into those little boxes on a calendar. As you have probably already figured out ……. your family, job, workout routine, child chaffering services, cheerleading, refereeing, dog training, shopping, cleaning, cooking AND sleeping can’t all be squeezed into one little box. It’s a mess. The writing for one box is always encroaching on other boxes. Things are always falling out of MY boxes. In fact, sometimes things are hanging over the edge of the box and then slip out when I am least expecting it, like when I am trying to grab Michael something else that is attempting to JUMP from the box.

20140918-094312-34992313.jpg

Regardless, the schedule is messy and tricky and a total PITA until we get it mastered. So let’s brainstorm a little bit and come up with a few things that can make our lives calendars a bit more manageable!
1) Meal Planning. I really think this is at the top of the list. We, as mom’s, spend a lot of time cooking. We want healthy options for ourselves and any of our little munchkins who will eat the good stuff too, but we are so busy in the afternoon/evenings getting our little angels where they need to go that we come home exhausted at 8pm (or later) and basically collapse. If a meal hasn’t already been planned or started, its pizza again! Yes, again, like we probably already had it once this week. And while nobody in my house complains about pizza, it’s just not a great option nutritionally, or financially, if it is constantly a Plan B. So think about what you want to feed your family BEFORE the week starts. Get together ingredients for a couple crockpot meals if you are gone a lot for after-school activities. Make larger meals so that you can have leftover night & just reheat everyone’s favorite meal of the week. Buy individually wrapped/packaged fish fillets that bake in about 15 minutes for when you are in a hurry but still want something healthy. Don’t be embarrassed about buying the bagged salad because tossing a side salad on the table EVEN WITH PIZZA is better than breadsticks something starchy! Cut the corners where you need to but focus on overall healthy meals that taste good, are quick to prep and make the family happy.

20140918-102126-37286740.jpg

2) Get the run and/or workout out of the way BEFORE the day starts. I know we are all busy. And tired. And busy. Everyone wants to sleep as long as possible. But get out of bed and go do your workout early. This is really the only time for most of us. If it doesn’t happen before the day starts, it’s not going to happen at all because we are too focused on the family to take time back out for us. It’s too easy to decide to clean the house instead of go for a run. Or make a good dinner instead of heating up leftovers. I know. I’m right there with you. So get out of bed and go run or take yourself to the gym before the chaos ensues!

3) Give the kiddos chores. Sounds mean? Not at all, this is about life, responsibility, learning to help others. Divide & conquer the house cleaning, laundry and dishes! Don’t worry if things aren’t perfect and if the towels aren’t folded the way that you like, go read Runners World a book rather than refold those towels!!

4) Divide & Conquer! Don’t be afraid to ask your significant other for help. Some people still live in the dark ages where they think that the women need to do everything. And while your hubby may not be a rockstar house cleaner, laundry fairy or babysitter, LET THEM HELP! Send them to the store so that you can pick up the kids. Text them and ask them to put the laundry in the dryer and to “please” not dry your favorite running tights. LET THEM WATCH THE KIDS whether they like it or not while you run! This is super important ladies. The father of your children are FATHERS. They are partially responsible for your little angles. If you don’t let them help parent the kids, then they will be clueless and that’s on you. I know you are amazing moms. I know that you are superwomen and can do it all.  But sometimes just remember that you don’t have to do it all because you are part of a partnership. And if you are not part of a partnership, I can only hope that you have an amazing mother, BFF, sister or a network of women to help you because running a household while staying sane is not easy.

5) Be flexible and schedule in downtime! A schedule is only as good as the people using it. Realize that nothing is ever perfect. Nobody is perfect. Life isn’t perfect. And takeout pizza isn’t going to kill the family when you forget to turn on the crockpot before you leave for work if things go awry. Do your best to plan things out, use all your resources to balance the workload as much as possible but understand that shit things happen and be ready to roll with it when it arrives. That’s the secret to a busy schedule: flexibility. I also think its super important to have downtime. I try to keep Sunday’s open. No I don’t like Sunday birthday parties or movie dates or shopping trips. I want to stay home on Sunday and not do anything. I’ll probably be tackling my long run before the sun comes up but after that I’m showering, putting my jammies back on, making a big breakfast for the family and then hopefully finding my way to the recliner to watch movies or read. That’s it. I bust my butt all week in hopes for some downtime on Sunday.

Do you have any scheduling tips OR maybe the secret to end the chaos? If so, PLEASE tell us!!

Ragnar Chicago–Part II–Recap

I gave you a taste of the Chicago Ragnar Relays last week HERE.   It was a great experience and one where I can say that both myself and my teammates walked away with a new understandings of ourselves, our level of determination, and a certain respect for what each person was willing to sacrifice in order to finish this event.  I absolutely admire and adore each of these women because they chose NOT to give up but rather to stay and run each and every mile of the event from Madison, WI to Chicago, IL.  We started as 6 Ultra Badass Babes.

Start

We finished as 5.

Ragnar CHI_finish_official

Runner/Babe #5 started her 12+ mile leg in the middle of FRI afternoon.  Ran well.  Ran happy.  We supported her.  We offered & she accepted cold water.  We offered encouragement and forced her to drink and dose herself with water to protect her from the 83 degree heat and full sun.  But it wasn’t enough.  Babe #5 finished her run with a smile but soon thereafter succumbed to the horrible symptoms of heat stroke and dehydration.  Babe #5 was admitted to the hospital where she could recover in a safe environment.   We were sad to see her go.  We were sad to “leave” her behind but we had a runner out on the trail in “somewhere” Wisconsin and it was impossible to be everywhere at once with one van and only 5 babes left to run the remaining 137 miles.  Goodbye Babe #5.

Christy

I’ll admit, it was a little bit of a party in the beginning.  A celebration of sorts that we were actually running Ragnar after all the talking, planning, and training.  However, things turned serious after Babe #5 left.   No more marking “killz” on the van window.  No more checking off runs.  No more counting down to the finish.  Much like a marathon, we took it one mile at a time.  We were also hyper aware that if we lost one more person that it was over.  Like really over.  I’m not sure any of us really believed that we would be able to finish with the remaining 5 but we were all experienced runners.  We were all moms.  We knew that if we breathed a word of doubt that it would take life and wreak havoc.  The mind is a powerful thing and keeping it in check is sometimes the hardest part.

So we ran.  Mile to mile.  Exchange to Exchange.  Ragnar sign to Ragnar sign.

one mile to go   right

And we kept passing off that damn bracelet.  (Stock photo, I neglected to get a pic of our bracelet AGAIN).

ragnar-bracelet

Our original plan was for each babe to run 2 Ragnar legs at one time, so that each person only ran 3 times.   Yes, only 3 runs but double the mileage.  This was our first mistake.   While it looked good on paper, it was just too many miles during the heat of the day.   So the babes who were running late morning and into the late afternoon really bared the brunt of the heat wave and it was not a good thing.  Each of those babes came off their runs in poor shape.  Hot.  Miserable.  Bitchy.  Dehydrated despite all attempts to keep them fueled and hydrated.  Each one suffered mild signs of dehydration & heat stroke & we had a bunch of really MUSHY tummies.   Because of their experience, most of them were able to force themselves to eat, drink and get themselves back on track quickly.  Not a fun game but we played it.  Over.  And over again.  And we just kept running.

Needless to say, our brains eventually activated once they cooled off and we threw our predestinated scripts run mileage charts aside.   Each babe got out of the van when it was her turn and ran what she could.  We didn’t care if she ran 3 miles or 10 miles.  We just focused on moving toward that finish line.  We didn’t want any one babe to run more than she could handle because as was previously stated, if we lost one more babe, we would have been done.  So we just kept moving  Kept supporting each other.  Kept checking on one another.  Kept running, walking, crawling toward the finish.

The nighttime hours were hard.  They are hard in any relay race.  However, we had a van full of middle aged moms and well, we don’t stay up at night.  We go to bed with the kids.  So once 9pm rolled around it got hard.  11pm was bad.  1am sucked ass.  I got out of the van to run at 2 or 2:30am to run 7 miles and it was basically a WTF moment.  WTF was I thinking.  WTF made me think we could do this with 5 babes.  WTF was going to make my body RUN in the pitch black night thru the middle of Wisconsin.  WTF was going to make my blistered plantar fasciitis feet move it for 7 miles.   I was tired.  Discouraged.  Hurting.

But as with everything, it all worked itself out and eventually the sun came up.  The sun always comes up if we can wait long enough, right?  Well, it came up.  And while it was dark we figured out the answer to riddle.  Just run.  No expectations on anyone.  Just run.  No judgment.  Just run.  No mileage requirements.  Just run.  Just run.  Just run.  And look badass while walking running.  Smile

Ragnar CHI_2014

Once the sun came up, it’s a bit of a blur.  We were all exhausted.  We had picked up a bit of a routine.  Once a babe finished running, she would hydrate, fuel, stretch, relax, and eat real food.  Then she would try to rest.  After resting, she would drive or navigate.  One babe was always running.  One babe was always “on deck” with running shoes on and fuel belt filled, ready to jump in at any moment when Runner Babe called it quits.  It worked.  And we kept moving toward the finish.  One mile at a time.  Then I saw it.

seeing chicago

I saw Chicago, across the beach and beyond the tress.  And I knew we’d make it.  I admit, I started crying.  That was the first realization that we were going to finish.  I knew we’d make it.  Pure relief.  And soon enough we were Ragnar FINISHERS.  A mere 5 of us babes.  I understand that other teams may have done it with fewer but this was a real accomplishment for us.  Finishers.

We had some help a long the way.  We had three generous BADASS sponsors.

Ragnar Chicago is in the books.  It’s was an amazing accomplishment by 5 amazing women.  Not one of us could have done it alone.  And I’d like to thank Babe #5 for taking this journey with us and offering her continued support even after she left the relay.

Where In the World Is TTF?

I know many of you have been wondering what I have been up to as of late.  I’ve been pretty silent on the blog & in real life.  Well, it’s the hour of change for the TooTallFritz family.

Focus of Change

And basically Socrates got it right in the above quote.  I’ve been very focused on building our new life and what it to come for our family; as well as trying to make this transition as easy as possible for the kiddos.

We have been very fortunate that hubby was offered, and has accepted, a job near my hometown of Ft Wayne, Indiana.  We are very fortunate to have the support of family and friends in the crazy time of transition.  We are very fortunate that hubby was brave enough to accept this new challenge which will move him way out of his comfort zone of suburbia Illinois to the farm fields of Indiana.  We are fortunate that hubby loves me so much is humble enough to live with his Mother-In-Law in this time of transition.  We are fortunate that Mom loves me so much is generous enough to offer Hubby a place to live as we search for a house and begin the process of moving the entire family to a new area.  I am fortunate to have a Hubby and Mother who are both polite, kind and willing to do whatever is necessary to help the family.  Thanks to both of you!!

I've learned_fortunate

This transition is not going to be easy with 2 kids, 3 dogs, 1 bitch ass cat, and a 160 miles separating the family each and every week until we fully transition to Indiana.  However, I’m a firm believer that when opportunity arises you take note and accept  it, while simultaneously bowing your heard to give thanks.

Opportunity

While we are excited about the upcoming changes in our lives, we are also scared.   We are scared that we won’t find a house because the housing market is on fire in the Fort Wayne area.  We are scared I won’t find a good job since I’m giving up a really great one with a lot of flexibility.  We are scared that we won’t get into a good school district.  We are scared that Aby will forever be angry about  leaving her friends.  We are scared that Dad will actually take Michael hunting with him.  We are scared of the unknown.

change is scary

But my life motto is No Regrets.  So let’s do this!!

Fellow Flowers Mother Day Giveaway

So many amazing companies out there!  Today I want to talk about one which I have yet to share publicly.  Fellow Flowers.  If you don’t recognize the name, you may recognize the flowers!

image

The running and racing scene is now flooded by ladies sporting colorful flowers clipped into ponytails, onto visors or headbands and ultimately showing support for each other.  Each flower color represents something unique and is a statement on it’s own.  Women everywhere have fallen in love the the Fellow Flowers message of friendship, passion and enjoying the journey regardless of where it may lead.  The flowers unite friends and strangers a like.   The message keeps the community constantly “blooming”.

BELIEVE.  ACHIEVE.  BLOOM.  ENDURE.

Take a minute to go to the Fellow Flowers website HERE and look around.  Read.  I bet you find something to fill your tank with happiness and make you smile.  There’s a lot to see.  Stories to read.  Mission statements.  But I’d like to talk about the flowers themselves because that’s how it all began.  Each flower is a different color and delivers its own message.  Maybe it’s your message.  Maybe it’s mine.  Everyone has a story and the purpose of the flowers is to represent YOUR message, no matter what it may be.  My current favorite is a newbie.  Turquoise.

Believe. To look within, to overcome. Loving myself enough. I have the will, the determination and the courage to defy the odds…and inspire. My challenges have made me a fighter – a survivor. They will not define me or confine me. I will run my own race. Different, beautiful and all my own. I believe in me and my potential. And I’m going to succeed because I’m brave enough to think I can.

Turquoise FF_Believe in Me  Turquoise FF_jpg

The flowers all have a beautiful, yet powerful message.  I know you will find one that calls to you.  We are lucky today because Fellow Flowers has offered YOU a Mother’s Day giveaway!!  One lucky winner will receive the package below with a tee, note cards, stickers & a flower of your choice:

Fellow Flowers_MomsDay

I love this tee.  “Going for a Run isn’t Mommy Being Selfish.  It’s Mommy Being Awesome.”

It’s hard being a mom.  It’s hard stepping away from a new baby or even a rowdy crew and taking time for yourself without feeling guilty.   But trust me, Mom and baby BOTH need some alone time.  It’s the natural process of things.  Trust Dad or Grandma to keep baby safe.  Leave the guilt at home and go for a  run with girlfriends.  A short run with friends will bring Mom home smiling, destressed and so much happier overall.  A happy Mom is a better, more attentive Mom and Wife.  And that really makes Mom AWESOME.    Go be AWESOME!!

How to win this amazing giveaway?  I want you to tell us which flower you would pick, which one calls to you and tells your story!  Go pick your flower HERE and comment below to tell us which one you like best.  If you would like a second entry, go like the Fellow Flowers Facebook page HERE.   And for a third entry, probably a freebie for most of you, go like the TooTallFritz Facebook page HERE.    Three chances to win, just make sure you tell me which of the three you did (hopefully all three!) so that I can get you entered correctly.

One winner will be selected via a Random Number Generator on Monday, May 12th at 9am.  Giveaway starts NOW!  Good luck!

Time to get this party started!  It’s Shamrock Shuffle weekend and spring is on the way whether it likes it or not.  The Shamrock is the official kickoff of the Chicago racing season that culminates with the Chicago Marathon.   This year the Chicago Marathon will take place on October 12, 2014.  And it will be massive, just like always.

The marathon will bring world-class athletes, rising stars, talented age groupers, experienced marathoners and beginners alike.  So many want to come here, to run the streets of Chicago.  For the very first time in the Chicago Marathon history, the marathon has gone to a lottery system.  Yes, there are so many people who want to run the Chicago Marathon that we actually crashed the system last year.  Therefore, it has been decided that if one would like to run in 2014, they need to have guaranteed entry via a charity (like RMHC and yes, we still have spots available!!), a legacy of 5 CHI marathons or more, or a super fast time (3:45 for women, 3:15 for men).   Everyone else hits the lottery and good luck to YOU, if that’s your chosen path.

For me, I can’t imagine NOT running the Chicago Marathon since its in my backyard, so I decided to run with Ronald McDonald House Charities once again.  They are an outstanding organization.  I believe in their cause and am always amazed with the number of families they help every  year, both here in Chicago and around the world.  It wasn’t a difficult decision at all for me to sign up with them again for 2014.

So today, I’d like to start the fundraising process and am beginning with a raffle.  For each $5 donation to my RMHC fundraising page HERE, you will get one entry into this raffle.    What do we have for the raffle?

1)  A jumpstart to your next Super Hero costume with a New Balance run singlet featuring the Incredible logo!  You’re INCREDIBLE!  I know it.  You know it.  All your friends know it.  Now tell the running community at your next race!  3 run singlets available.  Women sizes:  S, M & L – 3 winners.  If you want one of these babies, let me know in the comments below and don’t forget to mention which size you need!   Value – PRICELESS  Winking smile

2)  Injinji – Over The Calf  Compression toe sock prize pack!  The Injinji socks have become a stable in my run world.  You won’t catch me very often sporting something other than Injinji.    I particularly like the over the calf compression style for long runs and marathons because they hold on my toe protectors so nicely, and help my crazy feet stay blister free!  I have every color they have made thus far and can’t wait for them to come out with more colors/styles!!  For you, I have a two pair, pink & purple { BIG THANKS to Frogger for donating the purple ones!!}.  Size medium,  which works for women shoe size 9-11.5 and men shoe size 8-10.5.  I’m also tossing in an Injinji hat because I know once you start wearing these babies, you are going to love them as much as me and you’ll want to shout it to the world at least when it’s raining.  One winner for the entire prize pack.  Value – $118.

3)  Emergen-C prize pack!  As optimistic as I want to be about spring being on its way, I’m honestly scared that this winter may NEVER end.  Aby and I have lived off Emergen-C all winter long, taking it daily, and we’ve faired particularly well compared to most.  This is also what I use when I taper for a marathon to ward off the “sickies” in those last couple of weeks before the big race.  This prize pack has 2 boxes of Tangerine flavored drink mix packets (30 packets per box), 2 boxes of Raspberry flavored packets, one Emergen-C Headsweats visor & one over the shoulder bag.  One winner for the entire prize.  Value – $86.

Okay, that’s the roundup for this raffle!  If you are interested in supporting RMHC, donate HERE.  If there is something above that you would like when your name pops up AS A WINNER, please make sure you tell me in the comments below. The raffle will go from now until Friday, April 4, 2014 at 9am at which time 5 winners will be selected via a random number generator.  Good luck and thanks to all of you who have helped me and RMHC in the past, and those of you who choose to support the cause this year!  Remember no donation is too small!   One entry into the raffle per $5 donation.  If your name comes up more than once, then you will receive more than one prize.    Good luck!
